A Louisiana man has been taken into custody for stealing a Jones County school bus over the weekend.
According to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, 36-year-old Corey Comeaux of Kenner, La., called authorities to report that a school bus was in the driveway of his friend’s residence near Sandersville — where he had been staying.
Comeaux admitted to transporting the vehicle, which had a broken window, to his friend’s home. The suspect, claiming to be an FBI employee, told deputies that he took the bus because he feared for his life and that there were people shooting at him while he was on a walk.
The bus had been parked at the primary driver’s residence on Red Hill Florence Road, less than one mile away from Comeaux’s friend’s house.
Officers turned the bus loose to the school district’s head of transportation.
Comeaux was charged with grand larceny and was taken to the Jones County Detention Center. His bond was set at $10,000.
