CUTLER, Calif.–It’s a nation-wide fruit recall and you could have some of the potentially dangerous food in your fridge or pantry. The fruit that was shipped from Wawona Co. in California has potentially made it to every state, including Mississippi.
The Food and Drug Administration is warning you today that nectarines, peaches, plums and pluots packed and shipped from June 1 through July 12 at a facility in Tulane County, Calif., could be contaminated with Listeria bacteria.
It could make you sick anywhere from three to 70 days after you eat it, too.
The stores in Mississippi that are most likely to have sold the fruit to you are Sam’s Club and Walmart.
Although there have been no reports of illness, Listeria, unlike most other bacteria, can survive in cold environments.
Symptoms of the illness, which could last for several weeks, are fever, headache, stiff neck, confusion, weakness, vomiting, and sometimes is preceded by diarrhea. Prompt treatment with antibiotics is advised.
Wawona agreed to the voluntarily recall, according to the federal Food & Drug Administration.
