Mississippi’s second-longest-serving judge has passed away in a car accident.
First reported by The Oxford Eagle, Judge Johnny Wayne McLarty, who presided over cases in Lafayette County, succumbed to injuries from a one-car accident that happened at James Food Center on Jackson Ave. on Saturday.
McLarty served on the bench for over 44 years and had been a member of the Mississippi Judges Association since 1979.
The Oxford High School alum had just won his bid for reelection in November.
