Long Beach Mayor George Bass has announced he will not seek another term as municipal elections are set to take place in 2025.
Bass, a Republican who was first elected in 2017 and is now in his second term, has been a public servant for over four decades. Before becoming mayor, he was the city’s fire chief and emergency management director.
“I am not going to seek reelection,” Bass informed the crowd Tuesday at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce’s annual breakfast. “I’ve been a servant all my life, and I feel like God has other things for me to do.”

In April 2023, Bass had to miss months of work due to being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma but returned in November 2023, informing residents that he was in full remission.
Qualifications for next year’s race for Long Beach mayor have not been announced by the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office at this time. Historically, the primary election has taken place in April and the general election in June. The new administration will begin in July 2025.
