Officials in Long Beach have broken ground on a highly anticipated gateway project that will enhance the city’s appeal and attract tourists.
According to the mayor’s office, phase one of the project introduced the signage currently displayed throughout the city. Phase two will include the construction of:
- A new tower
- Improved drainage
- Beach showers
- Upgraded walkways
- Enhanced landscaping
- Additional infrastructure improvements
Future phases will feature pavilions and other amenities for the community to enjoy.
The $4.3 million harbor gateway initiative was first conceived during Mayor George Bass’ first term and further developed during the Board of Aldermen’s retreat, where priorities for the city’s future were established, per the city.
Business owners and governing officials are optimistic that when the project comes to fruition, it will spur more foot traffic and boost the local economy.
