VICKSBURG, Miss.–A log truck ran into a van that turned in front of it Monday afternoon in Vicksburg. One person, who was riding in the van, is dead, and several others were taken to the hospital.
The wreck happened at about 3:30 on Hwy. 61, which is a main traffic artery in Vicksburg, said Police Chief Walter Armstrong.
Dead is Mary Wright, 63. The driver of the van had to be airlifted to UMMC. All other passengers were taken to River Region in Vicksburg. There were children in the van.
The log truck driver was also taken to the hospital.
The van ended up mangled and on its side in the wreck. The Jaws of Life tool had to be used to cut some people out. The log truck had a full load and the front of the truck was damaged.
MDOT officials were helping investigate the wreck.
