The 95th Academy Awards will be broadcast on Sunday at 7 p.m. CT with late-night television comedian Jimmy Kimmel serving as host for the third time.
SuperTalk Mississippi’s own Tanya Taylor, a certified Critics Choice Awards voter, offered her perspective on the upcoming presentation during Friday’s episode of Good Things with Rebecca Turner. Although Taylor believes many of Sunday’s winners will be decided by a narrow voting threshold, she expects two films, in particular, to have a big night during the ceremony.
“I think the two big winners Sunday night will be ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and ‘Elvis,'” Taylor predicted.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once,” a sci-fi/adventure film, leads the list for most Oscar nominations garnered, including one for best picture. “Elvis,” the film documenting the life of the Mississippi native Elvis Presley, received eight nominations.
Two other major films that made waves in 2022 were “Top Gun: Maverick,” which brought in nearly $1.5 billion at the global box office, as well as “Avatar: The Way of Water,” which made roughly $2.2 billion worldwide, breaking box office records.
Although both are nominated for best picture, Taylor thinks the two movies have better odds at receiving awards in other categories, one being visual effects.
