A local community health provider has been granted $7.7 million to open up shop in the Yazoo City area to service Mississippi Delta residents.
Congressman Bennie Thompson announced that the G.A. Carmichael Family Health Center will receive funding from the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development Community Facilities Program to renovate an existing building and make it a new medical facility.
The purpose of this new community healthcare facility is to provide services to the underinsured, uninsured, and underserved citizens around the community.
“The benefits that this facility can bring to the Mississippi Delta will make a difference in the health desert and have a lasting impact on the lives of citizens in this area,” Thompson said.
Services provided at the new facility will include dental, mental health, and pharmaceutical assistance. A walking trail will also be constructed at the facility for its diabetes education program to help promote the importance of good health.
