A new Crystal Springs Tomato Queen has been named with Lindsay Willett taking the crown.
Willett threw her hat in the ring for this year’s contest out of a desire to serve the people of the small Mississippi town and to also have more opportunities to familiarize herself with others in the community.
After going through the interview process to determine who would be the next tomato queen, the town’s chamber of commerce determined that Willett would be a perfect fit to represent the city.
Despite not being a Crystal Spring native, Willett considers the town to be her home and she is eager to be an ambassador for the community.
“This is honestly a great way for me to go out into my community and meet all the people I have not been able to meet because I have not been in Crystal Springs my whole life, but I have come to love this town as if it is my actual home town,” Willett said on Good Things with Rebecca Turner. “This gave me a chance to be able to serve these people, get to know them, be able to represent them, and hopefully I’ll be able to do that in a way that they are proud of for this entire year.”
As the tomato queen, Willett will be participating in a myriad of outreach events taking place in Crystal Springs over the span of the year.
“I’ll be out helping with events throughout the city throughout the year,” Willett continued. “I’ll be out in parades, making sure everything is going well, and making sure that people are having fun. I’ll be attending ribbon cuttings and being a representative not only for the city, but also for the chamber of commerce here in town.”
No stranger to actual tomato growing, Willett says her favorite type to harvest is the Cherokee Purple.
