JACKSON, Miss.- In light of Autism Awareness Day, the Governor’s Mansion and the Capitol will “Light it up Blue” tonight.
You can see the gleaming blue lights from 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 until 12 a.m. Thursday April 3 at the Governor’s Mansion and at the Capitol in recognition of World Autism Awareness Day.
A recent study from the Centers of Disease Control reported about 1 in 68 children have been identified with autism, up 30% in just the past year. More than 20,000 Mississippians are estimated to have autism.
The Governor’s Mansion and State Capitol are proud to join more than 7,000 buildings in 90 countries that have joined in the “Light It Up Blue” effort in prior years. Landmarks that have “gone blue” include the Empire State Building, Niagara Falls, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, Christ the Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro and the Arizona and Nevada state capitols.
Bryant said, “We will light it up blue for the support of all of those families, not only those present, but for all those in the future, until we stop this dreaded disease.”
