BILOXI, Miss. – A mercy killing is how lawyers for Correy Dartez portrayed the 2013 death of Victoria Lynn Dartez.
She suffered from asthma and Down Syndrome. Her husband could not afford her medicine anymore and didn’t want to see her in pain, so he covered her face with a pillow and smothered her.
A Harrison County jury didn’t buy the story and after more than an hour of deliberation Wednesday, found Dartez, 55, guilty of murder. He was sentenced to life in prison.
