JACKSON, Miss.–A letter has been sent to President Barack Obama from three southern governors asking him to end the National Guard furloughs. One of those is Governor Phil Bryant from the state of Mississippi who spoke Tuesday why it’s vitally important.
“These are the people that keep the helicopters in the air, the trucks running, and the lights on,” he said. “If we have to go into the field because of a hurricane or another natural disaster, these people are desperately needed.”
He pointed out it would put the state behind in its efforts, if such an event occurred.
“Twenty percent has a dramatic effect when you need one-hundred percent of the MS National Guard going into the field,” he noted.
The other two who inked the letter are Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and Florida Governor Rick Scott, both of the GOP also.
