JACKSON, Miss. – More than 1,200 spice overdoses have taken in Mississippi so far this year, the highest in the nation.
The Mississippi Department of Health said almost all of those cases were reported in a 60 day period, from April through May. The agency estimated 17 deaths in the state have been spice related. Nationally, 3,491 spice overdoes have been reported, according to the American Association of Poison Control Centers.
The synthetic marijuana, which can trigger a range of reactions from psychotic episodes to seizures, is illegal in Mississippi.
