Law enforcement departments across Mississippi are warning against firing guns into the sky to ring in the new year.
Aside from the action being illegal, officials warn that celebratory gunfire could be fatal or cause someone to be seriously injured.
Per a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 80% of injuries from this form of shooting are to the head, shoulders, and feet.
Additionally, the bullets could damage property. Police are also urging Mississippians to check local laws before shooting fireworks as we celebrate the start of 2025.
