Recently the Jackson Police Department has announced its upcoming Citizens’ Police Academy, but the Capitol city isn’t the only place for residents to get involved in their community.

JPD has  announced the academy for Monday, October 2,2017. The academy is used to educate and inform the community and provide a forum for police and residents to interact.

The Jackson’s academy will be a week long that includes a tour of the Public Safety Communications Center, an overview of the Community Relations/Crisis Intervention Unit, S.W.A.T. and Bomb Squad exhibition, and Driving and Firearms Simulator training. It will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Police Firing Range for the SWAT/Bomb presentation and firearm instruction.

Gulfport hosts an academy for anyone who is a resident or works in the city, over the age of 18, and has not prior felony convictions. They are held twice a year, once in March through May and one in September through October. The sessions are held every Thursday night at 6:00 p.m.

For more information about enrolling in Jackson’s Citizens’ Police Academy you can email rwalker@jacksonms.gov or call 601.960.1389.
