LAUREL, Miss. — No matter where you have a run in with police in Laurel, you will be on camera. The City Council approved the $162,000 purchase of cameras that will be placed on officer’s uniforms. According to Captain Tommy Cox with the Laurel Police Department, police have had cameras on their patrol car dashboards for over 20 years, and this is just the next evolution in policing.
“If the officer was engaged in the public off the side, you really were not getting the video. It gives you a better perspective of the officers,” said Cox “If something is going on inside of a residence, the video can better serve as evidence.”
Cox says the cameras are to make sure everyone is doing the right thing.
