The largest cruise ship to ever hit the Mississippi River is getting ready to sail.
Viking Mississippi, the first of Viking’s new Mississippi River cruise ships, floated out into water earlier this week for the first time. The vessel measures 450 feet in length and 75 feet in width and has a total of five decks.
“It is a proud moment that this new ship has met an American waterway for the first time,” Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking, said. “Our guests have long wanted to sail the Mississippi River with Viking, and we very much look forward to welcoming them on board this summer.”
The ship can host a maximum of 386 guests in 193 staterooms. Each room features a balcony or veranda, a king-size bed, a flat-screen television, a mini-bar, and a bathroom with heated floors. A few other features of the ship include a sun terrace with a pool, a café, and a lounge with a bar.
Currently scheduled ports of call on Viking’s new Mississippi River itineraries comprise seven U.S. states: Louisiana (Baton Rouge, Darrow, New Orleans and St. Francisville); Mississippi (Natchez and Vicksburg); Tennessee (Memphis); Missouri (Hannibal, St. Louis); Iowa (Burlington, Dubuque and Davenport); Wisconsin (La Crosse); and Minnesota (Red Wing, St. Paul).
Voyages will being in June 2022, and according to Viking, they plan to bring more than 17,600 guests to the river during the first full sailing season. To learn more, visit viking.com.
