The dispatch operators voice cracked as she thanked Loretta Lynn Sykes for her years of service as a volunteer firefighter. “Lorri” had been a volunteer firefighter for 2 years. She was killed alongside 80 year-old Alvin Beasley, who was a 47-year veteran of the Sumrall Fire Department. They were killed the evening of Wednesday, March 15, while working a wreck scene. Mr. Beasley was buried Sunday, with Sykes being laid to rest yesterday.
