MEMPHIS, Tenn.- A picture of Elvis Presley, the pride of Tupelo, is going to be placed on a stamp as part of the postal service’s new “music icon” series. Postmaster General Megan Brennan said in a statement on Wednesday that the stamp will go into circulation beginning in August.
There is a dedication ceremony scheduled for August 12th, at Graceland, Presley’s long-time home in Memphis. The stamp will be previewed between now and then.
Other artists featured in this “music icon” series are Lydia Mendoza, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.
This isn’t the first time Presley’s face has graced a postal stamp. He was last featured back in 1993.
