As an additional security measure, the 81st Security Forces Squadron has ended the use of the Trusted Traveler program at Keesler Air Force Base. All drivers and passengers must now show a valid Department of Defense identification, or have a visitor’s pass to enter the installation.
Under the Trusted Traveler program, sponsors could show their DoD ID card and vouch for all vehicle occupants. The change now requires anyone requesting base access, at any gate, to either have a military issued ID credential or be issued a base pass from the Keesler Visitor Center. The visitor center is located at the main White Ave gate. Outside of normal visitor center hours, passes may be obtained at the White Ave gate.
The new ID requirement does mean longer wait times at the visitor center and at the base gates. For any person needing a pass for base access, it is recommended to plan ahead for these increased wait time. The policy change was implemented to create a safer environment for those living and working on Keesler. In the first five days of the increased review process, security forces apprehended four individuals with either active warrants or outstanding felony charges.
If a passenger is under the age of 15, no pass is required. If a visitor is 15 years of age and up, they must have a visitors pass issued or a DoD issued form of identification. The individual will need some form of ID such as a driver’s license, birth certificate, passport, or social security card to receive a pass.
