PITTSBORO, Miss.–Vardaman Softball Coach Billy Joe Dill has been arrested on charges that he had inappropriate contact with one of his players, on the school grounds. Dill, 36, was arrested in court Wednesday.
Dill was in court for a probable cause hearing, which is the standard test for teachers to see if there are grounds to go any further with a case, once they’ve been accused of a crime. He waived the hearing, which meant he had to be arrested immediately.
The charges are sexual battery, touching a child for lustful purposes and enticement of a child.
The accusations first came up last week, but go back to the middle of March.
Dill has not entered a plea yet. That is set for April 20. Meanwhile, his bond was set at $240,000. The case could go to the grand jury as soon as this week.
