The weather is getting colder and you’re going to want to warm things up. What are safe ways of heating your home?
Handyman Buddy Slowik says you can start by making sure everyone in your household who is able knows how to use a fire extinguisher and has one available to them in case of a fire.
“Only use alternate heat that has been designed for that purpose,” said Slowik. Don’t use things such as your stove for heating. There are too many risks of something catching fire or forgetting to turn it off.
A good option is an alternative heater with an oxygen sensor.
Speaking of sensors make sure you have a working smoke and carbon monoxide detector in your house. They should be hooked up electrically but also they have a battery backup. Be sure you’re changing those batteries out at least two times a year.
Mississippi Handyman Buddy Slowik’s show is on the air from 10 to noon every Saturday.
