YAZOO COUNTY, Miss.- Religious beliefs are believed to be the reason behind the Yazoo County Justice Court Judges’ decision. They sent a letter notifying the board of supervisors that they will no longer perform weddings.
Justice Court Judges Pam May and Bennie Warrington said that the Mississippi law states that Justice Court judges may perform weddings, not shall perform weddings.
The letter was delivered by Clerk Demetrius Westbrook, and it stated that, as of July 1st, they will longer perform weddings, and asked that it be entered into the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors meeting minutes.
