The Jackson Public School (JPS) District has agreed to stop religious activity, including prayer, from taking place at faculty convocations.
The American Humanist Association’s Legal Center earlier this week, threatened to sue JPS after getting a complaint from one of its’ clients who claimed prayer and sermons were allowed at a teacher’s meeting. “We’re very pleased that the school district has promptly responded to this issue and has made assurances that future school-sponsored assemblies will comply with the Establishment Clause,” said Monica Miller, an attorney with the Appignani Humanist Legal Center.
She said the group got a letter Wednesday from JPS that promised religious activities would not be part of future convocations.
