GRENADA, Miss.- Joshua Blunt has been released from jail after being charged with manslaughter in the death of his daughter, 8-month-old Shania Rihanna Caradine, according to his attorney.
Blunt appeared before the Grenada County Grand Jury Tuesday where he was charged with manslaughter. He was then put behind bars with a bond of $15,000.
Blunt said he went to work on May 19 and forgot that his daughter, Shania, was in the backseat. He didn’t realize it for several hours, and by then it was too late. Shania was found dead in the vehicle.
During the grand jury hearing, the True Bill said he did “unlawfully, feloniously by culpable negligence and without authority of law cause the death of his daughter.”
However, the community around Blunt has raised the money needed to bail him out.
His attorney issued a statement in regards to the indictment:
We are extremely disappointed in the criminal justice system. It just seems time and time again that the justice system is not alive or fair in Mr. Blunt’s case.
