A Jones County Junior College student has been arrested for the killing of a Jackson State student over the weekend.
Joshua Brown, 19, was arrested Thursday morning after a search warrant was executed on the Ellisville campus of JCJC.
“Jones College remains committed to the safety and security of our campus community,” the community college said in a statement. “We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure that our campus is a safe place for everyone.”
Brown is accused of shooting and killing Jaylen Burns, 21, late Sunday just before midnight. Burns’ family has since told WLBT that the Chicago native was trying to break up a fight when he was killed.
Burns was killed at the University Pointe Apartments in what was the second on-campus shooting of a violent weekend at Jackson State.
Brown is being held at the Raymond Detention Center, where he is also being charged with possession of a weapon on school property.
