OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. — Jerry Rice may be the greatest wide receiver to ever play in the NFL. During his career, the Pro Football Hall of famer won 3 Super Bowl rings with the San Francisco 49ers; before that he went to East Oktibbeha High School.
Thursday Rice was honored at the school as part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s, “Hometown Hall of Famers.”
In interview with the NFL Network, Rice said while he lived in Mississippi as a teen, he would go running on dirt roads for “no reason” and chase horses.
Rice also used to lay bricks with his father. He would be on top of a ladder while someone threw bricks up two him, catching one in each hand. Rise believes this probably helped his hand and eye coordination. He also recalls constantly walking around with his hands in his pockets because he was embarrassed by how large they were.
All these factors turned this hard working Mississippi boy into a football legend.
During his career, he played for Mississippi Valley State, the San Francisco 49ers, the Oakland Raiders, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Denver Broncos. He retired from the game in 2006 after signing a one day contract with the 49ers.
