A new director has been appointed to serve in the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, according to Commissioner Sean Tindell.
James “Jimmy” Herzog was announced as the MBI’s newest director and lieutenant colonel on Thursday after serving three decades in law enforcement with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and Mississippi Highway Patrol.
“I am confident that his tenure as Director at MBI will be marked by great achievements,” Tindell stated. “His wealth of knowledge and experience will undoubtedly contribute to the agency’s continued progress and growth.”
Prior to retiring from the MBI, Herzog held the position of Captain of the Special Operations and Major Crime Unit, which managed the Amber and Silver Alert System. Additionally, Herzog played a pivotal role in the creation of the Endangered and Missing Child Alert System for the State of Mississippi.
After that, Herzog worked as Chief of Security at the Mississippi Department of Agriculture beginning in July 2022.
“Jimmy has had an extraordinary law enforcement career that has spanned three decades. In that time, he distinguished himself as a dedicated public servant who is committed to protecting and serving Mississippians,” Governor Tate Reeves explained. “MBI will be well-served under his leadership.”
Herzog is set to assume the position on February 1.
