Jackson State is gearing up to kick off its football season this weekend and first-year head coach T.C. Taylor has yet to announce a starting quarterback.
After losing two-time SWAC offensive player of the year Shedeur Sanders, the Tigers are looking at four different players — Virginia Tech transfer Jason Brown, North Texas transfer Greyson Thompson, Louisiana transfer Zy McDonald, or Holmes Community College transfer Phillip Short — to carry the torch passed down by the now-Colorado quarterback.
While Taylor, who is taking over for the highly popular Deion Sanders, has yet to announce which quarterback will lead JSU come game time, he does have an idea as to who will take the first snap on Saturday.

“We’ll take that into the game. That will be right there for the locker room. The guy that we decide to go with, we’re going to send him out there,” Taylor said. “When we decide who the guy is, that’s who we’re going to stand behind.”
Taylor, in part, has kept this announcement close to the chest to prevent his upcoming opponent, South Carolina State, from having the ability to thoroughly scout the Tigers leading up to the big game.
“You try to channel that as best as you can for the opponent. They don’t quite know who to prepare for at the same time,” Taylor added. “What our football team knows is no matter who is out there, we have an opportunity to win, and I think that’s what’s most important.”
Jackson State will kick off the debut of the T.C. Taylor era this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast nationally on ABC. The last time the two teams faced off was during the 2021 Celebration Bowl when the Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 31-10.
