After a big week one victory over South Carolina State, the Jackson State football team was not able to win in week two, falling to Florida A&M 28-10 on Sunday.
Florida A&M jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the second quarter, which was enough to secure their first victory over the Tigers since the Orange Blossom Classic was revived in 2021. Leading the way for the Rattlers was wideout Jah’Mare Sheread with 90 receiving yards, one touchdown, and 95 punt return yards.
Although quarterback Jeremy Moussa only completed a little over 50 percent of his passes for 150 yards, the Rattler rushing attack was able to account for 208 total yards behind big days from Terrell Jennings (75 yards) and Jaquez Yant (72 yards, one touchdown).
Jackson State, who did not get on the board until a Gerard Baeza field goal with 1:10 left to play in the third quarter, was finally able to find the end zone with a 66-yard touchdown from Louisiana transfer Zy McDonald to Rico Powers.
While Virginia Tech transfer Jason Brown (10 of 19 passing for 82 yards) started the game, McDonald came in relief and finished 10 of 14 for 149 yards and one touchdown. McDonald also added 30 yards on the ground on eight carries.
Powers had arguably the best day of any player in blue and white, accounting for 119 yards on four receptions. Running back Irv Mulligan had 77 yards on 16 carries.
The Tigers (1-1, 0-1) will be back in action Saturday against Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
