JACKSON- Jackson Public Schools have teamed up with Vision To Learn Founder and chair Austin Beutner and Mississippi Director Gayle Wicker, to provide eye care to the entire district.
That means eye exams, and possible classes to 30,000 students.
The non-profit gives free eye exams and glasses to students in over 180 cities nationwide. Their goal is to make sure low-income communities have access to eye care.
On Tuesday, May 16 from 9-10 a.m. the organization will be at Timberlawn Elementary School in Jackson providing eye exams to all 300 students.
Vision To Learn was created by the Beutner Family Foundation in 2012. Since then they have provided eye exams and free glasses to almost 85,000 kids, 50,000 of which were in Mississippi.
They began out of a van in Los Angeles, California and began to expand all over the nation. More than 89 percent of the kids served by the organization live in poverty, and 87 percent are of color.
