The Jackson Police Department issued the following press release following a shooting in the area that occurred on Friday afternoon:
Jackson Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 3000 block of Lampton Ave.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m, Officers found a 19-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Officers were able to gather information from the victim who stated that a suspect, driving an earlier model vehicle drove up and fired shots at him.
The victim stated he was on Memphis St. when he was shot and was able to make it to Lampton Ave. where police found him. He was transported to an area hospital; his condition is unknown at this time.
The victim is believed to be familiar with the suspect but the suspect’s identity remains unknown.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police.
This investigation is ongoing.
The department also posted multiple tweets Friday afternoon detailing another incident at Briarwood Drive and State Street. Two victims were shot and another was injured in the shooting.

JPD posted another tweet describing the driver as a “dark [black male] w/ dreads, possibly more than one shooter.”
As for a connection between the two shootings, another tweet was posted by the JPD saying that the two incidents are separate investigations, but they are not ruling out a connection.
“Memphis St. shooting and Lampton St. shooting are two separate investigations but possibly connected. Two different victims involved.”
