PEARL, Miss.- It’s not every day that you get to play minor league baseball in the city you grew up in. 21-year-old Zack Bird went to high school at Murrah High in Jackson, just down the road from Trustmark Park in Pearl, where the Mississippi Braves call their home.
Bird was acquired by the Braves last week as part of a 13-player trade between Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Miami. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in 2012.
He is set to start for the M-Braves Monday night.
Bird was 5-7 with a 4.75 ERA in 19 games (17 starts) at High-A Rancho Cucamonga this season. He had 95 strikeouts in 89 innings of work with the Quakes. Right-handers were hitting just .211 against Bird this season.
