A Jackson man has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the capital city’s U.S. District Court.
On July 21, 2021, officers with the Clinton Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on 47-year-old Jerry Shannon McAlister.
According to court records, McAlister was then pursued and detained by police after failing to stop. During his arrest, McAlister was found to be in possession of a firearm despite having multiple pre-existing felony convictions.
McAlister is now scheduled to be sentenced on August 24 and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
A federal district judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The Clinton Police Department and the ATF investigated the case.
