JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. — The tables are turning and now Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd has to report to a probation officer.
He plead guilty in federal court in Alabama Tuesday afternoon to a felony charge of misleading conduct toward another with intent to prevent communication to federal law officers.
He had been accused of kicking a suspect in the groin after the man was subdued with a taser following a high speed chase that ended in Alabama; and then having one of his deputies to erase a dashboard recording of the incident.
Byrd will be sentenced in March. Byrd still faces a 31 count indictment in Mississippi including extortion, fraud and hindering prosecution.
