Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the murder of a Jackson County Judge that occurred on Wednesday.
Jackson County Justice Court Judge Sheila Osgood was found stabbed to death inside of her Moss Point home Wednesday morning. According to the Moss Point Police Department, as officers were securing the scene and calling for medical assistance, 45-year-old Gregory Osgood, Sheila’s son, was shot by responding officers as he charged them with a knife.
Prior to opening fire, the officers instructed the suspect to drop the knife several times, but he refused and kept running toward them.
Law enforcement initially responded to a “welfare check” at the home on Davis Street that morning and again for a “disturbance” about an hour later. At that time, an officer heard gunshots and called for backup. When additional officers arrived, an individual that turned out to be a family member, who arrived to check on Sheila, complied with officers and laid down his gun.
At this time, no motive for Osgood’s murder is known. The homicide investigation will now be turned over to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, while the officer-involved shooting investigation will be led by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
