Five days after a Jayne Avenue carjacking, an unnamed juvenile suspect was brought into custody by JPD late Wednesday evening.

Jackson Police Department officers responded to a call at 7:50 pm last Friday, May 24 after reports of an armed carjacking on Jayne Avenue. Upon arrival, the homeowner told law enforcement that her vehicle had been taken at gunpoint.

The victim said that her children and grandchildren were sitting in the car as they prepared to leave the residence when two young men entered the yard, one carrying a handgun. Reports from the Jackson Police Department note that the armed suspect fired the handgun as approached the family and ordered them to exit the vehicle.

Once the family was out of the car, the homeowner was forced to hand over the keys and the suspects fled the scene in the stolen vehicle. A doorbell camera at the home captured the incident on surveillance video.

After a five-day multi-agency search for both suspects, JPD was notified by McComb PD, who had received a call from the Copiah County Sherriff’s office, that the parents of one of the suspects had brought him to the Copiah County Sherriff’s office to turn him in to authorities after seeing news footage of the carjacking.

The JPD Action Team took the juvenile into custody and transported him to Jackson Police Headquarters. The suspect has been charged on the count of armed carjacking, along with six counts of aggravated assault.

JPD reports that the investigation is still ongoing with the second suspect still at large.

Update: The 14-year-old suspect arrested in this case received a $1,750,000 bond for the charges of armed carjacking and aggravated assault.
