Jackson Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) saw a 10-year high in passengers this past calendar year, according to a recent report from the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA).
In a release to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, JAN documented a total of 1.2 million travelers in 2022, carrying over 50 percent of passengers boarding at any of the state’s seven commercial airports.
JAN’s passenger numbers for 2022 were 29 percent above those from 2021 and 16 percent above the pre-pandemic levels of 2019. JMAA Chairman Warren T. Herring believes this is a step in the right direction for Mississippi’s largest airport.
“The JMAA Board of Commissioners is proud to continue its support of the leadership and staff of JMAA in their growth plans and to assist in the modernization program taking shape, all to improve the customer experience of Jacksonians and the central Mississippi flying public,” Herring said.
As officials continue to work towards further improvements at JAN, the return of Southwest Airlines as well as the opening of several new restaurant options in both the east and west concourses have proven beneficial in terms of passenger volumes.
JAN currently offers flights to most major global hubs.
