The official numbers are in, and it was a record year for Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN)
According to the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA), JAN had nearly 1.29 million travelers in 2023, the highest number the state’s largest airport has seen in 15 years. Last year’s total was a 5.1 percent increase from 2022 and a 22.3 percent increase from 2019 as pre-pandemic numbers are easily being exceeded in Jackson.
Rosa M. Beckett, CEO of the JMAA, attributed enhanced flight options and dedication to the customer experience as reasons for the influx.
“The JMAA team is extremely proud of this 2023 performance and will continue to work closely with our airline partners to offer enhanced flight options and additional seats as travelers continue their return to the skies,” Beckett stated.
“The leadership and staff are laser-focused on our modernization program to improve the customer experience of Jacksonians and the central Mississippi flying public. We are also very fortunate to have a highly acclaimed board of commissioners to support the vision of a ‘next generation airport’ at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International.”
JAN currently offers four major airlines in American, Delta, United, and Southwest and is “just one stop away from six continents,” the release continued. This is the latest accolade for the airport after it was ranked as one of the top 10 domestic airports in the U.S. last summer by Travel + Leisure.
