An investigation is taking place in Lincoln County after a deer hunter allegedly discovered human remains near a wooded area.
Sheriff Steve Rushing reports that on Saturday around 4:30 p.m., the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a hunter located the remains near a road on Wooley Trail — a location nobody is reported to have visited since May.
Upon arrival, deputies requested the assistance of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation along with the state’s crime lab response team and the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office.
The remains were recovered by the crime lab and sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office for further testing.
No further description as to sex, race, or how long the remains had been at the scene is available at this time without further testing by the state lab.
