An investigation has been launched after an inmate was found dead in DeSoto County.
According to a press release, Tiffany Allen died Friday night while in custody at the DeSoto County Adult Detention Center. Allen was arrested earlier in the day during a routine traffic stop after deputies found drug paraphernalia inside her car.
Upon Allen, 42, being transported to the detention center, she was found to be concealing contraband. While waiting to be processed, Allen was found incapacitated in her cell, prompting officials to administer CPR in a bid to revive her.
“As the sheriff, it is with a heavy heart that I address the distressing incident involving a female discovered unresponsive within our correctional facility,” DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas Tuggle said. “Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the individual and her family during this tumultuous period.”
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has now taken over the case.
