The Mississippi Department of Corrections has reported the death of an inmate at the Parchman prison.
Inmate Marel Gartney, 20, was pronounced dead at the prison hospital at 9:33 a.m. on Thursday.
Gartney, #185964, was serving two sentences for shooting into a dwelling and shooting at a motor vehicle, a total of 10 years. Both carried an enhanced penalty.
His crimes took place in Coahoma County.
The cause of Gartney’s death has not been determined. Officials are waiting for autopsy results.
