Inmate dead after fight at Marshall County Correctional Facility

MARSHALL COUNTY, MISS– An inmate is dead and the prison is on lockdown after a fight at Marshall County Correctional Facility in Holly Springs. 

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, correctional officers at the Marshall County Correctional Facility in Holly Springs responded to a fight in one of the housing units, according to a statement from Issa Arnita Corporate Communications Director for MTC, the company that runs the private prison.

When officers arrived, they found two inmates with injuries. Inmate Oscar Pirtle (MDOC#105350) died as a result of his injuries.

Pirtle was serving a 15-year sentence for aggravated assault. The other inmate was treated and released from a local hospital. No staff were injured. The facility is on lockdown, meaning no visitation and restricted privileges. The motive is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this point.
