PASCAGOULA, Miss. – The new $20 million Haley Reeves Barbour Maritime Training Academy is now open near Ingalls shipyard in Pascagoula. An apprentice program will operate in the building where students will learn to be electricians, welders, and a dozen other jobs needed to build ships. Around 400 students are expected to will graduate.
“This training academy will ensure that the next generation of shipbuilders in Mississippi maintains the world-class shipbuilding reputation built right here at Ingalls,” said Governor Phil Bryant.
The building is named after former Governor Haley Barbour and he was there for the ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday.
