JACKSON, MISS– Jackson State University has announced Dr. Rod Paige as the interim president of the university, following the resignation of President Carolyn Meyers.
The university posted the announcement on their Facebook page Tuesday afternoon, following an emergency meeting by the Board of Trustees with the Institute of Higher Learning.
“Jackson State University played an important role in his story,” read the post. “and now he has come home to serve the institution that opened the door to many opportunities that followed.”
Dr. Rod Paige is the former U.S. Secretary of Education, confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2001. Paige served in that capacity until 2005. According to Paige’s website, he helped to spearhead “the implementation of No Child Left Behind.”
