Officials have released the identity of one of the people involved in a Jackson shootout that has now gone viral after being filmed by a citizen near the scene.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 22-year-old Kylin Demond Russell was arrested on Friday, Feb. 9 after leading Capitol Police on a high-speed chase north of 120 miles per hour. Officers initially tried to pull Russell over after he failed to yield for a traffic stop.
The chase came to an end when Russell’s vehicle gave out. He then tried to flee on foot but was quickly caught.
Officers found two Glock pistols with machine gun conversion devices inside his vehicle. They then matched the description of the car and Russell’s weapons with the video that has now been widely circulated.
The arrest was part of state and local law enforcement’s new “Operation Unified” initiative, which was officially announced on Tuesday but launched last month. Russell, who appeared in court on Wednesday and had bond denied, is facing up to 10 years in prison for illegal possession of a machine gun.
Additional charges could come for Russell in relation to the incident in the video, where more arrests are expected to be made.
