MERIDIAN, Miss. – Songwriters from Alabama and Mississippi will showcase their work this weekend at Meridian’s second annual Highway 80 Songwriter’s Fest.
The event is Oct. 24 and 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and is completely free to attend. Nearly 20 songwriters will perform at three venues Weidmann’s, The Brickhaus and Faces Lounge in downtown Meridian.
The songwriters from Alabama and Mississippi will perform with noted hit songwriters Walt Aldridge, of Muscle Shoals, writer of such hits as “No Getting Over Me” (Ronnie Milsap), “Some Things Never Change” (Tim McGraw), “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde” (Travis Tritt), Song of the Year, “Holding Her Loving You” (Earl Thomas Conley; Nashville-based Grammy and Dove Award nominated songwriter Bob Regan “Your Everything” (Keith Urban), “Something About a Woman” (Jake Owen), “Thinking About You” (Trisha Yearwood) ,“Dig Two Graves” (Randy Travis); and Meridian-native guitarist/songwriter from Bayonne, NJ, George Cummings of “Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show” fame.
And if you are interested in finding out the process songwriters go through to write and produce their songs, there is a writer’s workshop you can attend on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Rhythm & Brews in Meridian. The two-hour Saturday workshop is open to anyone wanting to learn more about songwriting, the business of songwriting, or the music industry period.
