CHICKASAW COUNTY, Miss. — A 15-year-old has been airlifted from Chickasaw County on Thursday after an apparent hunting accident.
The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Department tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal the victim was shot accidentally by another teenager as the two were walking out from a deer hunt.
Evidently the .30-06 rifle in question fired off striking the boy in the head.
Emergency crews helped to get him out of the woods and to a nearby hospital, from which he was airlifted to Memphis.
An investigation into the shooting accident is still ongoing and the NEMS Daily Journal reports the boy is in serious but stable condition.
