JACKSON, Miss– The Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries calls October 1 the start of bow season for anterless deer and legal bucks and also the fall squirrel season kicks off.
As a hunter, it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for since the end of deer season last year. Today marks the beginning of bow season. So grab your longbows, recurves, compound bows, and crossbows and hit the woods. There is no minimum or maximum draw weight, no minimum arrow length and fixed or mechanical broadheads may be used.
Anterless deer and legal bucks can be hunted on private and public land, but there are limits. You can only get one antlered buck a day and no more than three a year. If you’re going after anterless deer, you can get 5 per year. On National Forrest Land you can only get 3 in a year, but only 1 a day.
Fall squirrel season also starts today, and you can bag 8 of those a day, with no limit per year.
