JACKSON, Miss. – Nothing can wreak havoc on a rancher or farmer like a long drought.
It’s really not news to anyone, Mississippi needs rain. More than 25 counties are under burn bans due to the fact that brush and grass are just too dry.
Kristy King is the county Extension Agent with Agriculture and Natural Resources in Clarke County and talked about how the drought is effecting cattle:
King says the short supply of grass and hay means that farmers will have to sell their caves a little earlier and a little lighter.
Overall, King says one of the biggest problem facing ranchers this season is the low hay production.
